(7-30-10) Yep, they're here -- the dog days of summer, those hot, humid, sultry days in July and August in the Northern Hemisphere. The name comes from the ancient belief that Sirius, also called the Dog Star, was responsible for the steamy weather. Sirius is the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major and also the brightest star in the heavens after the Sun.
It's a time to kick back, relax and try to keep cool before the hustle and bustle of fall return. There are plenty of ideas in Recorder Community Newspapers and their online blogs.
